Websites for brandsthat mean business.

We design and build the site itself, not a slide deck about it. Fixed price, agreed before anything starts.

What we do

Most websites are built tobe admired. Ours are builtto be used.

Gridwork is a web design studio in Durban, building websites for small businesses across South Africa. We start with the commercial question, not the moodboard. What does this site have to do, for whom, and how will you know it worked.

Then we design it properly and build it by hand, so it loads fast, reads clearly on a phone, and still works for someone using a keyboard or a screen reader.

What that includes

Services

Everything from thefirst sketch to thehundredth update.

01

Website design & build

The main thing we do. A site designed around what your business actually sells, built to load fast and read clearly on a phone.

  • Plan the pages together
  • Custom design, no templates
  • Built and tested
  • Set up so you can edit it
02

Online stores

Sell properly online. Clean product pages, a checkout that gets out of the way, and stock you can manage yourself.

  • Product pages that sell
  • Card payments set up
  • Delivery options
  • Orders and stock in one place
03

Brand & identity

The look underneath the site. A logo, a set of colours and type, and simple rules so everything you put out matches.

  • Logo and wordmark
  • Colours and type
  • A one-page brand guide
  • Social media templates
04

Care & keeping it running

Launch is not the end. Backups, updates and support when something looks wrong, on a small monthly plan.

  • Backups and updates
  • Uptime monitoring
  • Monthly content changes
  • Support when you need it

How it works

Five steps.No mystery.

You always know what is happening, what is next, and what we need from you to keep moving.

01Talk

A proper conversation first. What you sell, who buys it, and what has to be true for this site to have been worth the money. No jargon, no forms to fill in.

02Plan

We agree the pages and what each one has to do, written in plain language. You approve that plan before any design starts, so nothing arrives as a surprise.

03Design

The key pages, designed with your real words and pictures rather than filler. You see them in a browser on your own phone, not as a flat picture in an email.

04Build

The site gets built properly, checked on phones, tablets and desktops, and set up so your team can change the words without breaking the layout.

05Launch

Going live, connecting your domain, and a walkthrough recorded so you can watch it again later. Two weeks of free fixes after that, no questions.

Pricing

Real numbers,before you ask.

One price, agreed before we start. Half to book your slot, the rest when the site goes live.

How we work

Three promises, all of them in writing.

01

The price does not move

The number on your quote is the number on your invoice. If the scope changes, you get a new number to approve before anything is built.

02

You own all of it

Domain, hosting, design files and code, in your name from day one. Leave whenever you like and take everything with you.

03

Two weeks of free fixes

After launch, anything that is not working the way it was agreed gets fixed at no cost. No arguing about what counts as a bug.

Questions

Before youget in touch.

A starter site is about two weeks. A five-page site is usually three to four weeks. The biggest factor is how fast the words and photos come back to us, so we agree those dates up front rather than hoping.

A short call, your logo if you have one, a few sites you like and a few you hate, and whatever words and photos already exist. If there is no copy yet, say so early. Writing it is real work and it changes the timeline.

Yes. On final payment the design, the code and every account are yours. Your domain and hosting are set up in your name from day one, so you are never locked in and never waiting on us to move something.

Email is run by your domain provider or by Google Workspace, not by the website. We point you to the right place and make sure the site never interferes with your existing mail, but the mailboxes stay in your control where they belong.

Every build includes two weeks of free fixes. After that you can buy time by the hour, or take the monthly care plan, which is cheaper as soon as you need more than an hour of changes a month.

No. Every design starts from your content and your brand. That is the whole reason to hire someone rather than buying a theme, and it is why two Gridwork sites never look like each other.

Because scope varies more than anything else. The listed figure is a realistic starting point for that tier, and your final quote is fixed before any work begins. You will never get an invoice you have not already agreed to.

Half to book your slot in the calendar, half when the site goes live. Payment by EFT. If a project runs longer than about six weeks it is split into three payments instead, so nothing sits unpaid for months.

Your domain name, stock photography and any paid fonts. Hosting is free on the setup we use, including the security certificate, so the only running cost is your domain at roughly R100 a year. Anything else is billed at cost and agreed in advance, never marked up.

No. Plenty of sites launch without one. It is worth it once you want more than an hour of changes a month, or if the thought of backups and updates keeps you up at night.
